Letter Arrangement - Alphabetical Order

 The letters are arranged in a particular order as given in the question and then the candidate has to analyse the question get the desired result. These type of questions are asked in the competitive exams to analyse the reasoning ability of the candidate.

Alphabetical Order: In this type of questions, generally a letter series is given from the letters A to Z or a word is given and its letters are to be arranged in alphabetical order. The  candidate is then required to trace the letters satisfying certain conditions as regards to their positions in the given sequence or the sequence by performing certain given operations on the given sequence.

Illustration: To find a letter from the left or right end of the English alphabet.

Illustration 1 : In the following letter series, which letter will be the 10th letter to the left of 15th letter from the right side?

      A B C D ............ Z.

   A. U            B. B          C. V          D. W

Answer: B

Solution: The 10th letter to left of 15th letter from the right means (10 + 15) = 25th letter from right that is starting from Z. 25th letter from right is B.

Illustration 2 : In the following letter series, which letter will be the 15th letter to the right of 10th letter from the left side?

      A B C D ............ Z.

   A. Y          B. B          C. V          D. W

Answer: A

Solution: The 15th letter to right of 10th letter from the left means (15 + 10) = 25th letter from left that is starting from A. 25th letter from right is Y.

Illustration 3 : In the following letter series, which letter will be the 15th letter to the left of 10th letter from the left side?

      A B C D ............ Z.

   A. U            B. B          C. V          D. E

Answer: D

Solution: The 15th letter to left of 10th letter from the left means (15 - 10) = 5th letter from left that is starting from A. 5th letter from left is E.

Illustration 4 : In the following letter series, which letter will be the 15th letter to the right of 10th letter from the right side?

      A B C D ............ Z.

   A. U            B. B          C. V          D. W

Answer: C

Solution: The 15th letter to right of 10th letter from the right means (15 - 10) = 5th letter from right that is starting from Z. 5th letter from right is V.
